Question

Can I keep my current number if I move to WIND? How do I do it?

Answer

Yes, it is usually a simple process to “port” your current mobile phone number over to WIND when you join us. Here are a few things you need to know.
a) Only ACTIVE phone numbers can be transferred. Do not cancel your current mobile service with until you speak to us about bringing your number over.
b) In order to make sure you're the only one who can make decisions about where your phone number goes, there are a few steps in the application process you'll need to go through. It's all for your security, and it's an easy process. We'll walk you through it.
c) Have the following info ready: the phone number you want to port, your name and account number, and your exact billing address with the old carrier.
d) If you want to bring a current land-line number to your WIND phone, give us a call at WIND Customer Care. That's 611 from your WIND phone, or or 1-877-WIND-184 (1-877-946-3184) from any phone.

When you're ready to join WIND, talk to us in-store, call us at WIND Customer Care or visit our activate page and we'll walk you painlessly through the steps to bring your current number with you. The process usually takes 3-5 hours. We'll text you on your new WIND phone when the magic happens, and of course we'll contact you directly if there's a problem porting your number.

Question

Do you have the iPhone? Do you have the Google Nexus S?

Answer

We do not have the iPhone. Apple’s current iPhone is not compatible with the WIND network (AWS/1700 Megahertz/BandIV). When we hear an AWS iPhone is in the works, believe us, we'll be knocking Apple's door to get the scoop!

If you're looking for the Google Nexus S, you're in luck! This gorgeous high-end Android-powered device is just one of the great handsets available at WIND. If there's another device you've got your heart set on, let us know!

See our selection of handsets or learn about bringing your own unlocked AWS phone to WIND.

Question

I already have a phone - can I bring it to WIND?

Answer

There are a few criteria for bringing your own phone with you to WIND:
a) Must be compatible with our network (AWS/1700 Mhz/)
b) Must NOT be locked to another carrier
c) Phones compatible with the U.S. T-Mobile network often work with WIND

If you're in doubt, bring your phone into any WIND store and we'll check it out on the spot.

Here's how our lawyers say it:
By activating services using your WIND licensed SIM card, you acknowledge receipt of and agree to accept and abide by our Terms of Service (which are included with the SIM card and are available here. WIND does not make and expressly disclaims any representations and warranties relating to the SIM card or handset and does not represent or warrant that any particular handset will work with your SIM card and/or that all services available to WIND customers are available on your handset. Not all phones designed to work on the AWS band will work your SIM card. Please check handset compatibility before licensing your SIM card from us.

Question

What is a WIND Zone versus an AWAY Zone?

Answer

WIND Zones are the areas where we have WIND network coverage: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, the GTA, Hamilton and Ottawa (see detailed coverage maps here). Outside of those areas, we’ve still got you covered with coast-to-coast AWAY roaming coverage – it’s just 25c/min to make a call from anywhere in Canada or the US to anywhere in Canada or the US. Learn more about roaming here (including rates).

It’s easy to tell between the two: when you’re in a WIND Zone, your phone will say “WIND” onscreen. When you’re AWAY, the word “AWAY” will appear on your phone's screen.

As long as your phone is showing WIND Zone coverage, you can use all of your included and unlimited plan features at no extra cost. This means if you’re a WIND customer from Vancouver you can travel to Toronto and use your phone just like you would at home in Van – send and receive messages, use your data plan, and make and receive calls, and you won’t be charged anything extra… No more paying long-distance to order a pizza from the shop across the street from your hotel.

What? I can use my phone in ANY WIND Zone, without getting charged extra?

Yep. Amazing, huh?

Whichever WIND Zone you call home (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, the GTA, Hamilton, or Ottawa), you can travel to any other WIND Zone in the country and still have access to all of your plan features & add-ons, without any additional charges.

Still can’t believe it? Here are some examples of how our WIND Zones work:

  • If you’ve got a WIND phone in Vancouver you can travel to Toronto and use your phone just like you would at home in Van – send and receive messages, use your data plan, and make and receive calls – all according to your WIND plan.
  • If you’re a Brilliant customer in Ottawa with unlimited province-wide calling, head to Calgary and your province-wide calling comes with you. Call from Calgary to Medicine Hat and it’s all good – no additional long distance or roaming charges will apply.
  • If you’re a Smart customer with unlimited Local Area calling, the same rules apply. You can call anywhere in the Local Area of the WIND Zone you’re in (not necessarily the WIND Zone where you set up your account), and you’re covered.

Outside of our WIND Zones, your WIND phone will switch to AWAY mode (indicated on your phone's screen). In Canada and the USA, you’ll pay just 25c/minute for calls to anywhere else in Canada or the US. Learn more about roaming at WIND.
